Rumour Mill: Liverpool rival Premier League clubs for £50M-rated striker

Montpellier-Olivier-Giroud Liverpool joining the race to sign one of French finest international forward this summer. Arsenal, Newcastle and Bayern Munich has identified the Montpellier striker, Olivier Giroud as a potential transfer target.

However, Giroud has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Newcastle in recent months. Arsene Wenger has reportedly instructed his France-based scout Giles Grimandi to keep a tab on the player's progress.

And Montpellier owner Louis Nicollin dismissed Newcastle's attempts to court the services of his star striker last year declaring the northern club to be "too small" for Giroud.

Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish has been searching a strike partner for Luis Suarez to bolster the Reds attacking options. The £35million signing, Andy Carroll has failed to liven up to his expectation at Anfield so far and may leave this summer but on a loan term.

Dalglish and assistant Steve Clarke watched Montpellier’s 1-0 victory at Toulouse on last Friday night and were joined in the stands by Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi and Bayern Munich’s general manager Christian Nerlinger.

Although there were other players on show that have attracted Liverpool’s interest in the past year, including Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko and Montpellier captain and defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, it is understood Giroud was the focus of Dalglish’s attention.

Giroud is rated at £50million but is understood to have a release clause considerably lower at £13.5million.

The stumbling block though could be his desire to play in the Champions League.

Montpellier should qualify while Liverpool will be in the Europa League.

Liverpool look set to sign Swedish midfielder for £8M

Many speculations suggested that Liverpool FC has agreed terms with Swedish international midfielder, Rasmus Elm.

The Swedish international was pulled out of Sunday's game against Feyenoord after his wife gave birth to their first child leaving Kenny Dalglish to re-schedule another spying visit.

Rasmus Elm Elm is expected to figure against NEC Nijmegen as Liverpool consider making an official £8million offer for the 24-year-old.

Rasmus Elm’s agent has moved quickly to cool talk of a transfer to Liverpool, insisting his client will wait until the end of the season before deciding upon his future.

Patrick Mork told eurosport.de: “No, it’s not (true).”

“What is said is that Rasmus would wait until after the season before he makes any decision. That’s just media speculation gone too far.”

Dark has requested that all interested parties should come back with their offers at the end of the current campaign, allowing the player to focus on his football until then.

“For starters, he wants to say until the end of the season.” he added.

“I ask all clubs who call to come back, but exactly when Rasmus would decide I do not know”.

Video: What’s the pundits says about Norwich v Liverpool?

lfc-norwich-300x200According to Steve Bower of BBC Sport, Norwich will again be without centre-back Zak Whitbread, who is nursing a groin problem.

Fellow defenders Daniel Ayala and Marc Tierney remain side-lined by knee and groin injuries respectively.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard may return after being rested for last weekend's home defeat against West Bromwich Albion.

Fellow midfielder Charlie Adam has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

A glance at the table just about sums up the contrasting emotions of these two clubs in this Premier League season. Who would have thought when the fixtures were produced that Norwich would trail Liverpool by just three points going into this match? Whilst it speaks volumes for the remarkable efforts of all connected at Carrow Road, it only highlights Liverpool's domestic inconsistencies once again.

Whilst 2012 may yet be remembered for two successes in cup competitions, only bottom club Wolves have picked up fewer top-flight points than Liverpool since the turn of the year - it's 12 from a possible 45 for the Reds. In fact, unless they pick up eight points from their last four games they will be left with their lowest ever tally in the Premier League.

This fixture is one of many reminders of a frustrating season. Back in October they hit the woodwork twice and produced a string of fine saves from John Ruddy as Norwich became one of 12 clubs to leave Anfield with at least a point. Remarkably, the Reds have recorded two more wins away from Anfield than at home. Now they have two more matches to play before their Wembley meeting with Chelsea to try to improve things slightly. Last season they finished 10 points off the top four - the current gap is 16 points.

Norwich will relish the visit of Liverpool in their penultimate home game of the campaign, and will try to beat them on home turf for the first time in 19 years since the memorable days under Mike Walker. They've lost only two of their last eight at Carrow Road and those defeats were against both Manchester clubs. Paul Lambert would dearly love another landmark day in an incredible season, and will hope to put one over Dalglish, who he briefly played under at Celtic.

Liverpool forward and transfer target want reunion at old club

Dirk Kuyt Liverpool are set for a minor revamp on the playing squad this summer. Kenny Dalglish and FSG are keen to trimmed the squad and reduces the squad average age. The likes of Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez and Fabio Aurelio days are numbered at Anfield.

Liverpool’s summer transfer target, Salomon Kalou also hinted that he’ll moved back to Feyenoord.

While Kalou has found a new lease of life under interim manager Roberto Di Matteo at Stamford Bridge, Kuyt has not played a huge role for Liverpool this season under Dalglish and is believed to be unhappy with life on the bench.

Indeed, Kalou let slip that the 31-year-old wants to be back in the Eredivisie as soon as possible.

"For me Feyenoord is No. 1. I want to stay another few years here. After that Feyenoord is an option." he said on Dutch television show Nieuwsuur.

"Dirk told me he wants to return now. Dirk said to me that I also must come, that we both have to return to Feyenoord."

Rumour Mill: Liverpool planning to swoop on Chelsea’s free agent

Liverpool will be going all out on signing at least one striker this summer. Although, Kenny Dalglish’s transfer fund will be reduced after the Reds has failed to qualify for the Champions League next season, signing an experienced striker on a free transfer would be a bargain buy for Liverpool this summer.

Kalou Liverpool has lined up Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou as Dalglish looks to beef up his attacking options. The Ivory Coast international will be out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal and the lack of regular first team football may well lead the former Feyenoord man to consider an offer from the Merseyside club.

The 26-year-old has struggled to secure a run of games ever since he arrived at Stamford Bridge in May 2006 and has consistently played second fiddle to a number of striking team-mates in that period and may now be ready to leave the West London side in search of first team football.

Luis Suarez is currently Liverpool’s most effective attacking weapon and though England international Andy Carroll has improved of late there is seemingly still a need to bring in back-up given that Dalglish’s side have managed just 40 goals in 33 Premier League matches.

Dalglish will feel that the chance to nab a player of Kalou’s talent for nothing is worth looking into and though there is reported interest from several Ligue 1 sides the Chelsea man may be tempted to remain in the Premier League.
