The title race may seems to be over now but the season yet to be closed for the holidays. There are still one final match to be played at Anfield and Liverpool could record its season’s point tally of 86 if they can overcome Spurs this Sunday afternoon. Liverpool can be proud of themselves as they pushed Manchester United till the final two matches for the title decider.
Looking back at the performances by the Reds this term, losing two league matches (one more match to be played) could ends our long awaited league title since 1990 but a certain dipping of form during the January and February has cost Liverpool dearly. The eleven drawn matches which seven of them at home to the likes of Stoke, Fulham, Hull will always be the talking points for the football’s critics. Hopefully, Rafael Benitez has gained a valuable lesson this term and rectified them in the summer.
In the illustrated Premiership’s campaign, teams which have accumulate lesser than six defeats stands the chance to clinch the trophy. The lesser the better but in Liverpool’s case, it was close but no cigar. The Reds scored almost a century of goals, chucked up a greater goal differences, lost fewer matches than the rivals and yet the title went down the M62.
We could always blamed it on the injuries to the key players. If only Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are fit and played together most of the time this season. That’s clearly just an excuse as injuries to the groins and hamstrings are just part of the game which it can not be avoided. Largely, this is due to the depth of the current squad and just look at the luxury United or Chelsea has have at the bench which they can call upon.
Adding new personals in the coming summer could be very crucial for Liverpool to continue to mount the challenge next season. But the sell before buy policy means Rafa need to clear his flops to get his new targets. Whoever Rafa signs next, we can rest assured that he’ll not going to make the same mistakes again.
