Reds completes third signing

Diego Cavalieri will battle with Jose Reina for the coveted No 1 shirt at Liverpool this season after signing a four-year contract at Anfield.

The Brazilian goalkeeper could feature in Liverpool's pre-season friendly with Tranmere tomorrow having completed his estimated £3million switch from Palmerias.

Diego CavalieriLiverpool are hoping to cover the cost of the 25-year-old with the sale of Scott Carson. Carson spent last season on loan at Aston Villa but Martin O'Neill has been put off by Liverpool's £6m valuation of the England shotstopper.

Cavalieri becomes the third Brazilian at the club alongside Lucas and Fabio Aurelio and is manager Rafael Benitez's third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of full-backs Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena.
