Former Liverpool winger joins Real Zaragoza

Real Zaragoza have completed the signing of winger Jermaine Pennant after his release by Liverpool at the end of his contract.

The former Arsenal youngster passed a medical with the Spanish outfit on Thursday and will join their bid for survival next season after being promoted back to the Primera Liga Division.

The 26-year-old becomes Zaragoza's first signing of the summer and joins on a three-year deal.

“I wanted to come to Spain and I had offers from important teams in Europe but joined Real Zaragoza.”

“I really want to get started and do well in the league.” – Jermaine Pennant.

Pennant spent time on loan at Portsmouth last season after being frozen out at Anfield.

The former England Under-21 winger impressed for Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan but found opportunities increasingly limited from then on.

Michael Owen to join Manchester United

I don’t know how’s true are the press rumours surrounding former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen, 29-year-old, signing for Manchester United? Owen’s contract at Newcastle expires on July 1 and are free to join any clubs.

The Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was poised to make an astonishing move in the transfer market by bringing injury-prone striker Michael Owen to Old Trafford on a free transfer.

The likes of Karem Benzema and Franck Ribery, who both targets for United has snubbed the Red Devils for Real Madrid recently and what irked Sir Alex even more are Carlos Tevez will not sign for United after being offered a contract.

Owen would welcome a move to United because it would give him the chance to prove himself at Champions League level and also bolster his chances of regaining his place in England head coach Fabio Capello's plans for next summer's World Cup finals.

Michael Owen With the luxury of £80million at the disposal of Sir Alex, he only managed to sign Antonio Valencia from Wigan for £16miliion. United could offer Owen a lucrative contract deal, matching his wages at Newcastle, which stands at £115,000 per week.

Everton has dropped out of the race to sign the out of favour England international as they could not match his salary demand. Although, Owen, who will be ready to accept a dramatic drop in wages, has already attracted public declarations of interest from Stoke City and Hull City while Tottenham and Portsmouth are also understood to be keen on securing the services of a striker who has fallen from grace during his time on Tyneside.

Should Owen join United - where he would also get the chance to team up with England striker Wayne Rooney - he would plug one of the gaps in the United ranks cause by the departure of two of Ferguson's so-called 'Fab Four' in the shape of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. At the same time, ends his relationship with all the Anfield’s fans.

The former Manchester United and England skipper, Bryan Robson, is confident that Owen can still prosper in the upper echelons of the game despite his recent problems since his £17million move to Newcastle from Real Madrid.

"Michael is a natural goal-scorer and natural goal-scorers who can do the business at the highest level are few and far between,"

"I definitely think that he is capable of being a Champions League striker because he's only 29 and he has still plenty of good years left in him yet." - Bryan Robson, Telegraph Sport.

Liverpool is also in the market for a backup striker. Is Rafa going to make a last minute offer for Michael Owen? I would love to hear your thoughts and leave your comment here.

Juventus not interested in Liverpool midfielder

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli insists the Serie A giants are not interested in signing Liverpool midfielder.

Speculation is rife that Juventus have joined the race to sign Xabi Alonso, who they tried to tempt to the Stadio Olimpico last year.

“For the midfield, there are many names. But Xabi Alonso's not one of those",

"I read in the press about our interest for him. He's a good player, but I think that saying I've read his name in papers is where it ends." – Cobolli Gigli.

I'm going there - Xabi Alonso Cobolli Gigli also revealed that Juventus are still interested in Udinese playmaker Gaetano D'Agostino despite their bid hitting several stumbling blocks.

However, Cobolli Gigli claims they are not in the hunt for Alonso, who has also been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Juventus wouldn't be able to match the amount that Real Madrid would bid, which is rumoured to be between £25m and £35m, with it now looking increasingly like the Spanish international is actually going to be leaving Anfield?

Leto completes Panathinaikos switch

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Greek side Panathinaikos for the sale of winger Sebastian Leto.

The Argentine spent last season with rivals Olympiacos after work permit problems prevented him playing for the Reds.

Leto signed for Liverpool in August 2007 after Rafa Benitez beat the likes of Real Betis and River Plate to his signature. The 22-year old made his competitive debut in a Champions League qualifier against Toulouse on August 28, 2007 - one of four senior games.

Rafa has decided to cash-in on the player as he looks to trim his squad and raise funds for his own transfer plans.

Meanwhile, Ryan Flynn is set for another loan move away from Anfield this summer. The 20-year-old midfielder enjoyed a productive spell at Wrexham last season as he scored four goals in 21 appearances.

Rafa believes another temporary switch will aid the youngster’s development and a number of clubs are chasing his services.

Liverpool midfielder exit inevitable

Liverpool midfielder wants a move to Real Madrid sorted out before July 19 according to reports.

Xabi Alonso has flown back to Spain after the Confederations Cup in South Africa and immediately went into talks with his representative Inaki Ibanez, to have his future sorted out before he is due to meet up with his team-mates ahead of a tour of Asia.

"I don't know what will happen. The clubs now have to negotiate."

“It is always positive when various teams are said to want you because that is better than nobody being interested, but I cannot say much more,” – Xabi Alonso, Spanish newspaper AS.

Alonso has so far refused to come out and publicly make his intentions clear. Rafa Benitez wants to keep Alonso but accepts there is little he can do if the player wants to leave.

“I know that I have to keep playing well and will be able to decide what happens next whenever it arises.

“I do not think a move to Real Madrid is impossible, but I would also have no regrets at all staying at Liverpool.

“My relationship with Benitez is professional. I’ve already been in England five years and the truth is that I have adapted well.

“I’m happy there, though I do miss certain things from Spain. I cannot rule out a move or even staying in the Premier League.” – Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso Benitez will held a face-to-face talks with Alonso this week after scoring the winning goal for Spain against South Africa. The press interview during his involvement at South Africa has puzzled us and Liverpool. Alonso did not gave his assurances about where his future lies after the Confederations Cup.

Benitez does not want to lose either Alonso or Javier Mascherano, but if Alonso is keen for a Bernabeu switch, he wants the player to publicly come out and state his intentions.

Real Madrid has submitted a £30million bid for Alonso but Liverpool will not do business if the bids are lower than £35million, according to the sources from Spain.

Hopefully, Benitez can persuades Alonso, a player he’s trying to offload last summer, to stay put at Anfield.

Liverpool to enter bid for £38M striker

Liverpool will make an official approach to sign Valencia forward, David Villa, according to the Spanish press. Just a day after Villa revealed to the Spanish television that he’ll not leave Spain at the moment.

"A week ago my future was clear and now it's not.,”

"I've been through some tough moments, which are partly my own fault, but I decided to put it all aside and I've not thought about it in the last five days.

"When I said I had taken a decision it was true, and this decision is that next season I will play in Spain because it is the league that is best for me.

"I will not go abroad." – David Villa, Spanish television statement.

David Villa If this rumours are true. We wonder where Rafa got the money to funds such a move? Could it be the co-owners, who finally pumping in the money? George Gillet Jr., Liverpool’s co-owner, has recently sold his US assets, Montreal Canadiens, his National Hockey League franchise in a deal worth £330million to Molson. Tom Hicks are still continues to search for a buyer for his Texas Rangers baseball franchise.

All of the worst possibilities, Rafa has agrees to sell Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa, Sebastian Leto and Charles Itandje. The four players’ fees can be recouped and it’s known to be worth £42million altogether.

Liverpool will have to contest with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea for Villa’s signature. Can Liverpool snap up the most on form striker on the planet and forms the most lethal striking partnership in the Premier League?
