Video Highlights: Blackburn 2-3 Liverpool

Andy Carroll scored an injury-time winner to give Liverpool a 3-2 win over Blackburn on a night when stand-in goalkeeper Alexander Doni received a red card which will rule him out of Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Everton.

The Reds led 2-0 until Doni was dismissed for a foul on Junior Hoilett after 25 minutes.

On came third choice stopper Brad Jones in a week when his partner Dani gave birth to a baby boy named Nico Luca after Brad's sadly deceased son Luca - and the Australian immediately saved a penalty.

A Yakubu brace looked to have given Blackburn the point that would lift them out of the relegation zone until Carroll ruined their night with a close-range header.

Kenny Dalglish made six changes to his side from Saturday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, selecting Jamie Carragher, Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez on the bench and resting Steven Gerrard altogether.

The return of first-choice right-back Glen Johnson, meanwhile, provided a timely boost ahead of the Wembley derby. The England man was given 52 minutes before being replaced by Daniel Agger.

Liverpool offered little in the opening exchanges but after 13 minutes they were in front following a route one pass downfield by captain-for-the-night Martin Skrtel, whose vision to pick out Craig Bellamy is sure to feature in any highlights package of his already excellent season. Bellamy then delivered a precise cross which made Maxi's task of finishing the job at the far post an easy one.

Three minutes later the Argentine made it 2-0 from a similar position, this time using his predatory instincts to convert after both Jonjo Shelvey and Carroll were denied.

Video Highlights: Liverpool 1-1 Aston Villa

A tap-in from Luis Suarez earned Liverpool a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors led from the 10th minute thanks to a Chris Herd strike, but our No.7 secured a point with a poacher's goal eight minutes from time.

The Reds were denied by the post several times and felt aggrieved at not being awarded penalties on three occasions - one of which looked a certain foul.

The game was preceded by a minute of silence in memory of the 96 supporters who died at Hillsborough 23 years ago next weekend.

Proceedings then commenced and there was an unfamiliar face on show for the hosts - that of Brazilian goalkeeper Alexander Doni, deputising for the suspended Pepe Reina to become the 14th regular stopper to play for Liverpool in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Jonjo Shelvey retained his place in midfield, while Dirk Kuyt partnered Suarez up top.

And it was Kuyt who was first to make either goalkeeper work, finding himself denied by Shay Given - who saved onto the post - from a tight angle after Stewart Downing beat a man and crossed.

Instead it was Villa who took the lead on 10 minutes when a Stephen Warnock centre was palmed away by Doni into the path of Barry Bannan. He cut the ball into the stride of the unmarked Herd, who guided into the top corner at the Kop end.

Video: Kenny Dalglish pre-Villa press conference

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish accepts the task of restoring the club to their once-envied position in European football will not be an easy one.

The Scot enjoyed a hugely successful career as a player at Anfield and continued that into his first spell in charge as Reds boss.

One of the most damning statistics which highlights the decline of a club so dominant at home and abroad from the late 1970s through to the late 1980s is that Dalglish is the last Liverpool manager to win the league championship 22 years ago.

Since then Manchester United have taken their place at the top of English football and, with Manchester City having flexed their considerable financial muscle to become genuine title contenders and Tottenham adding their name to the so-called `big four` Liverpool's - and Dalglish's task - has become even tougher.

They have not helped themselves this season as, just when it looked as though they were well poised to make a late run for Champions League qualification, having missed out the last two seasons, results have collapsed.

The Reds are now eighth in the table, enduring their worst run of form since 1953, and are 16 points adrift of fourth place, with the relegation zone (12 points) closer.

Liverpool FC in transition or in crisis?

Dark cloud looms heavily on Merseyside, especially at Anfield, the red half of Liverpool. Six defeats in last seven matches has yet again divided the club’s supporters into two regimes – back the manager and sack the manager.

What’s went wrong with Liverpool FC in the second half of the season?

Injury to key players – noticeably Lucas Leiva and Daniel Agger. The failure to find a good replacement for Lucas in the January transfer window has been the down point of the ability of Director of Football, Damien Comolli in this aspect. The Reds has lost its solidarity in midfield since the Brazilian midfielder were out for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury.

This season we saw the partnership of Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger has been flourishing in the central defence. Losing Agger through rib injury sustained during the League Cup Final at Wembley has contributed in the recent slump of form. You can argued that the Reds have a wealth of central defenders to call upon in the absence of Agger. Jamie “Mr. Liverpool” Carragher has already passed his prime and wasn’t the same old Carragher we used to see few season ago.

Sebastian Coates, lack of Premier League experience, it’s too soon to throw him into the fray. Kenny Dalglish doesn’t want to damage the young lad confidence by playing him week in, week out.

Many blames Dalglish’s team selection and tactics on the recent slumps – no consistent formation and clear direction on the team’s tactics every match that lead to ineffective performances from the players. Yes, this I can agreed upon. Late substitution and constant changes of squad formation will lead to confusion or inability to carry out the team’s tactics on the playing field by the players.

More worrying are the club’s new recruits hasn’t been performing to the level as we’ve expected – Carroll, Downing, Adam, Henderson and Bellamy. These five players are British and their first season with Liverpool FC except Bellamy. Getting each player to gel will require more playing time together hence Dalglish has been fielding all his summer signings almost on every team sheets.

Not forgetting that Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson are both in their early twenties. Both signed on for five years. Are we going to judge them on their first season like what some supporters doubted on Lucas? As the title suggested, Dalglish has been moving the club forward and are in transition. Stabilizing the club and experimenting on the team’s playing style are what all about this season.

Winning the Carling Cup in February was a plus point for Liverpool FC and a semi-final clash with neighbour Everton in the FA Cup, ensured our club in the hunt for a second cup despites poor run of league forms. Even Sir Alex Ferguson first season as Manchester United manager, the team down at L4 has finished the league in 11th out of 22 teams. Can we expect Kenny Dalglish to pull the rabbit out of the hat in his first term as Liverpool manager?

I’ve been supporting Liverpool FC since 1987 and it’s been twenty-two years since the last time the Reds has crowned the league champion. Why all the sudden some segment of the supporters became so impatience with the current situation? All projects need time to execute and Dalglish is having a big project in rebuilding Liverpool FC stature as English league major club. Why not stick wit the manager and let him finish what he has started?

If those who can’t see the bigger picture on what Kenny Dalglish, Damien Comolli and FSG are doing now, please drop your allegiance and support other club instead. Yes, as a Liverpool FC supporter, you’re entitled to voiced out your opinion but if in a negative way, it won’t do the team spirit any good in the long run. I, myself too have my own view and opinions but I judged on facts and support the work by our manager. I’ll give him until next season to deliver the results and I believed, we’ll reap rewards from it next season.

This is my own point of views from 11,000 kilometres away from Liverpool.

Video Highlights: Newcastle 2-0 Liverpool

Liverpool’s season plunged to new depths during a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle, which saw Pepe Reina sent-off for an apparent head-butt, and Andy Carroll clash with Kenny Dalglish after a torrid return to St James’ Park.

Papiss Cisse’s 19th-minute header set the home side on their way to a victory which leaves them in pole position to claim a top-six Premier League finish, and his second with 59 minutes gone sealed it.

Dalglish's men continued to fight for salvation as the clock ran down, but their efforts grew increasingly laboured.

Carroll was withdrawn to a chorus of boos and went straight down the tunnel, and Liverpool’s hopes were finally dashed when Reina senselessly head-butted Perch nine minutes from time as was sent off.

Match Preview: Newcastle United v Liverpool

Newcastle will welcome a number of familiar faces back to St James' Park on Sunday when fellow top-six chasers Liverpool arrive in the North East.

Kenny Dalglish, Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique are all set to take in a Premier League fixture on Tyneside for the first time since severing their respective ties with the Magpies.

Their presence will add extra spice to an occasion which already has plenty riding on it.

Newcastle head into the game sat level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea and only five adrift of the UEFA Champions League places.

Team news

Newcastle will be boosted by the returns of Cheick Tiote and Ryan Taylor.

Midfielder Tiote has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, while utility man Taylor has been side-lined by a calf strain.

However, central defender and captain Fabricio Coloccini is out with a torn hamstring, joining long-term absentees Peter Lovenkrands., Leon Best, Sammy Ameobi, Steven Taylor and Sylvain Marveaux on the casualty list.

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam will miss Sunday's trip to Newcastle as he must wait a fortnight for further assessment of a knee problem.

Manager Kenny Dalglish is hopeful some of his other players will be fit to return, however, with defenders Glen Johnson , Martin Kelly and Daniel Agger all missing for last weekend's defeat to Wigan.

Midfielder Maxi Rodriguez has recovered from the illness which kept him out of the last game but forward Craig Bellamy has missed four successive matches and is out again.

Luis Suarez is the wanted man in the summer

Despite Luis Suarez insisted on staying at Merseyside, all depends on how the contract extension negotiation between Suarez and Liverpool this summer.

According to Italian publication Il Tempo, AS Roma have joined the battle for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

Suarez has been an instant hit with Liverpool supporters since he made the switch from Ajax last year but has had his desire to stay in England tested after a string of controversial incidents.

Roma’s ambitious new board have plans to make a big-name signing this summer to lift their profile around the world – and Suarez tops their agenda. The Giallorossi have put aside €25 million to convince Liverpool to cash in.

A host of European clubs has shortlisted Suarez as their transfer target this summer. Juventus, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Paris St. Germain and now AS Roma joining the bandwagon on signing the Liverpool striker.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool wants another Suarez

Liverpool are plotting to sign Anderlecht forward Matias Suarez and pair him with namesake Luis in an all-South American strike force.

Comolli is believed to have watched the striker a number of times this season, but is wary of Anderlecht’s hefty price tag.

Several English newspapers this morning report the speculation, also linking the 23-year-old to Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Anderlecht manager Herman van Holsbeeck has revealed of host of top sides are trailing the forward.

   “There are 15 top clubs prepared to pay the money we want for Suarez and the fee could be higher than the money we received from Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku last year,”

“Matias could have gone to Russia in the winter and also Juventus, but his wife Magali did not want to go,”

“Do I think Suarez is worth more than Lukaku? Well, technically he is a better player.”

Comolli was responsible for the recruitment of Luis ­Suarez, who has been a huge hit, but many signings made by Liverpool’s American owners have not brought the same value for money.

Suarez’s agent, Jorge Cyterzpiler, told press earlier this month “The player has attracted interest from clubs in England and Italy.

   “Liverpool have been spoken about but both Manchester clubs are also watching him. Juventus also have a chance to sign him.

“In April I will be in Italy to discuss his future. In the summer he will certainly move on but Anderlecht won’t let him go for cheap.”

While Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, no doubt have the finances to bring in Suarez, they are wary about over-spending, having already forked out an estimated £115 million on recruiting new players during Kenny Dalglish’s short reign as Liverpool boss.
