Kenny Dalglish has confirmed Liverpool are waiting to discover the extent of the injury Steven Gerrard picked up on international duty – but the boss expects to be without Daniel Agger for a 'few weeks'.
Gerrard returned to Melwood today and will undergo assessment from the club's medical team after being substituted in the 32nd minute of England's 3-2 defeat to Holland on Wednesday night.

Liverpool ended their six-year wait for silverware with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final at Wembley.
After the game had finished 2-2 following extra-time, the Reds prevailed 3-2 on penalties with Anthony Gerrard missing the decisive kick for the Welsh side.
It meant Kenny Dalglish has led Liverpool to a trophy in his first full season back at the helm, and he'll be hoping it proves the catalyst for further success in the remainder of 2011-12.
Joe Mason had given the Bluebirds a 19th minute lead against the run of play when he crept into space inside the box and struck through the legs of Pepe Reina.
Liverpool controlled the contest, but had to wait until the hour mark to equalise when Martin Skrtel pounced on a loose ball in the box to fire home after Luis Suarez's header had hit the post.
With no further goals in the 90 minutes, the teams contested half an hour of extra-time - and Dirk Kuyt fired the Reds into the lead when he found the net at the second attempt from the edge of the box on 108 minutes.
However, Ben Turner netted from a goal-mouth scramble following a Cardiff corner at the death to force penalties.

This rumour resurfaced again today from SkySports, which Liverpool were tipped to have move for the FC Groningen striker and Luis Suarez’ countryman, David Texeira.
David Texeira has played down comparisons with Luis Suarez and insists he does not yet have enough experience to join a high-profile club like Liverpool.
The 20-year-old frontman is believed to have caught the eye of the Reds, who were thought to be monitoring him in last month's transfer window.
Texeira has also been compared to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, with the two players hailing from the same city, Salto, in Uruguay.
But the youngster has shrugged off those comparisons, insisting his style of play is more akin to that of compatriot and Inter Milan ace Diego Forlan.
Texeira is aware of talk linking him with an Anfield move but insists it is too early in his career to join a big club.
He instead wants to emulate Suarez in continuing his development in Holland after the Reds striker spent four years at Ajax before moving to Merseyside.
“I heard the rumours that Liverpool were after me, but people talk a lot,”
“It's way too early to join a club like Liverpool. I need more experience first, and that's why I joined Groningen,”
“I want to develop here, and eventually join a bigger club, just like Luis.” he said.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says victory in Sunday's Carling Cup final against Cardiff would mean a great deal to both himself and supporters after six years without a trophy.
The Reds have not won anything since their FA Cup win at Cardiff in 2006.
“It means a lot to me. More importantly it means a lot to a lot of people who have had to endure a few years when we've not been [to Wembley],”
“It is just reward for the loyalty and support they have shown.”
Championship side Cardiff stand between Dalglish and what would be his first ever League Cup win as a manager.
It is the one domestic honour missing from his managerial career, although he won it four times as a player.
A 3-2 aggregate win over Manchester City in the semi-final ensured Liverpool's first trip to the new Wembley, where they will bid for an eighth League Cup title.
“I think we've treated the competition with respect but the other teams that have are few and far between,”
“We have treated it very seriously. We've used 20-odd players to get there so every member of the squad bar a couple has made a contribution,”
“We are grateful to all of them, to the owners and supporters and everyone who has stood by us.” added the veteran Scot.
The Reds go into the match on the back of a 6-1 win over Brighton in the FA Cup, which has set up a quarter-final clash with Stoke City at Anfield.
“We have moved on from where we were last year, progressing in the FA Cup and the final of this cup and are four points behind fourth in seventh place - this time last year we were nowhere near that,”
“There is progress being made. For the players it is an indication of how well they have done so everyone is looking forward to it,”
“We have a chance so we will do as well as we possibly can and we will try to progress the club and move forward.” added Dalglish.

Reports have surfaced that PSG are ready to offer Liverpool striker Luis Suarez an escape route out of England.
L’Equipe reported that the nouveau-riche French league leaders are desperate to sign a world-class forward and have turned their attention to the Uruguay star after failed bids in January for Carlos Tevez and Alexandre Pato.
The French club are keen to add a world class striker to their squad and the recent problems of Suarez at Liverpool have convinced them that the Anfield club would consider selling a prized asset that has turned toxic over recent weeks.
Suarez served an eight-game ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra, then raised tensions again in refusing to shake the Frenchman's hand ahead of Liverpool's defeat to Manchester United last week.
Suarez apologised to his manager, Kenny Dalglish, and the club, but Liverpool's American owners have been embarrassed by the affair and the Uruguayan's future is in doubt.
Signed in January last year from Ajax in a deal worth £22.8million, Suarez has scored 13 times in 36 appearances for Liverpool. Though arguably the club's best player, the controversy surrounding him may convince Liverpool the best thing for all parties would be to recoup their outlay.
Backed by the oil and gas rich Qatari royal family, PSG would have no trouble meeting any asking price and matching or improving Suarez's wages.
Any move could hinge on PSG claiming a place in the Champions League next season.
Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League and on current form look set to miss out on a European place next year.

On the 23rd of January 1919 in a little known town called Hetton-le-Hole in County Durham, was born a baby who was to grow up to be the most successful manager in Liverpool Football Club’s history. His name of course was Bob Paisley.
Paisley started his long road to success at non-league Bishop Auckland before signing for Liverpool in May 1939, but due to war breaking out Paisley had to wait until 5th of January 1946 to make his debut in Liverpool’s first post-war competitive match. Paisley became a regular in the Liverpool team at left-half and he helped Liverpool win their first league title in 24 years in his first full season at the club. Paisley had to wait until 1948 to net his first goal at Liverpool on the 1st May at Anfield in a 2-1 win over Wolves.
Paisley scored the opening goal in a 2-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Everton in 1950 only to suffer heartache when he was dropped for the final against Arsenal in the club’s first ever trip to Wembley, which they lost. Paisley stated that this experience helped him deal with players during his time in management when he had to tell a player he was being left out of a big game.
Paisley became the club captain the following year. He retired from playing as a one club man in 1954 and continued to work for Liverpool as a self-taught physiotherapist. He later became coach of the reserves before becoming a member of Bill Shankly’s famous “Boot Room”. In 1971 he became Shankly’s assistant manager until Shankly’s shock resignation in 1974, where Paisley succeeded as manager.
Liverpool had become one of the top clubs in the country under Shankly’s leadership and had won numerous trophies. Paisley’s task seemed a formidable one to continue in Shankly’s footsteps. But the unassuming Geordie took to management like a duck to water, although his first season did end without a trophy.
Bob Paisley went on to manage Liverpool for 9 years winning 6 League Titles, 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA Cup, 3 League Cups, 5 Community Shields and 1 UEFA Super Cup. The only cup that eluded him was the FA Cup which he lost in a final in 1977. It really is a remarkable record for a man that never really wanted to become manager.
Paisley inherited a great team from Shankly but through time he had to shape the team into his. He lost great players like Kevin Keegan but he replaced him with an even better player in Kenny Dalglish. He could change the role of an established player like Ray Kennedy who was a superb striker for Arsenal, but Paisley could see that he would be a better player in midfield.
Paisley retired from management in 1983 after serving Liverpool Football Club in so many different roles in 44 years unbroken service. He did return to help Liverpool in 1985 as a consultant and advisor to new player-manager Kenny Dalglish for two years before being appointed a director of the club until 1992, having to retire due to ill health after being diagnosed with Alzhiemer’s Disease. Bob Paisley died on the 14th of February 1996. But Liverpool Football Club honoured his fantastic service and achievements by erecting the “Paisley Gates”.
For me, Bob Paisley is the most under-rated manager in the history of British football, his record of success is astonishing. He is the only manager in history to win the European Cup 3 times. During his time as manager he always tried to shun the spotlight and maybe because he was so quiet may be the reason why he is not talked about as much as Ferguson or Mourinho.
It’s not just Paisley’s incredible management career that excites me, but his service to one club in so many roles that he played to help Liverpool Football Club achieve what they have. Paisley was the opposite of Shankly in terms of personality but similar in terms of success.
Although Paisley was quiet he did come away with some memorable quotes –
"Kevin was quicker off the mark, but Kenny runs the first five yards in his head."
“Mind you, I’ve been here through the bad times too – one year we came second”
“It’s not about the long ball or the short ball, it’s about the right ball”
“Other people have earned more money than me in football but no-one has enjoyed it as much as me”
Although this great man is overlooked by many people on his achievements in football, he has legendary status in the hearts of Liverpool supporters. Paisley was manager of Liverpool when I started supporting them and I took the winning for granted at the time, but now after nearly 30 years since his departure from management I realise that success does not come easily in football, and I now I can fully appreciate how great a manager Paisley was.
