Despite Luis Suarez insisted on staying at Merseyside, all depends on how the contract extension negotiation between Suarez and Liverpool this summer.

According to Italian publication Il Tempo, AS Roma have joined the battle for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

Suarez has been an instant hit with Liverpool supporters since he made the switch from Ajax last year but has had his desire to stay in England tested after a string of controversial incidents.

Roma’s ambitious new board have plans to make a big-name signing this summer to lift their profile around the world – and Suarez tops their agenda. The Giallorossi have put aside €25 million to convince Liverpool to cash in.

A host of European clubs has shortlisted Suarez as their transfer target this summer. Juventus, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Paris St. Germain and now AS Roma joining the bandwagon on signing the Liverpool striker.

FA Cup: Liverpool 2-1 Stoke City

A sensational strike from Luis Suarez helped Liverpool book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Reds beat Stoke City 2-1 at Anfield, with Stewart Downing netting the winner after a controversial Peter Crouch goal cancelled out the stunning opener.

A trip to Wembley is the prize for Liverpool less than a month after they triumphed there in the Carling Cup final.

The game got underway following a round of applause in support of Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba as he receives treatment in hospital.

Kenny Dalglish made just one change to the team that beat Everton 3-0 on Tuesday, Maxi Rodriguez replacing Jordan Henderson. And it was the Argentine who mustered the first attempt on goal after three minutes, nodding marginally over the crossbar from a Steven Gerrard free-kick.

Stoke responded with lofted passes to top scorer Crouch, and though most of his headers were won, Liverpool were usually smart to the second ball.

The match was developing into a nondescript encounter until 23 minutes, when Suarez received possession midway inside the Stoke half. The No.7 found Maxi, who returned the pass first time before watching Suarez control and then thunder into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Liverpool striker hinted on Ligue 1 move

Rumours of a switch to Paris Saint Germain for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez are sure to grow after the player told Canal+ he would be open to such a move.

Suarez has endured a stormy 12 months in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals in 32 appearances and being affected by disciplinary problems - the worst of which was an eight-game ban for the use of racially offensive language towards Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

Last week, PSG indicated they would make a move for the Uruguay international in the summer, though Reds boss Kenny Dalglish insisted there was no chance he would be sold. But now the player has suggested he is willing to move to the big spending Ligue 1 leaders the situation could change.

Diego Lugano, captain of Uruguay and a staunch supporter of Suarez during the racism row, is at PSG and Suarez said he would "love" to play alongside him at club level. That said, Lugano is something of an outcast at PSG and has started only nine Ligue 1 games this season.

   “Yes, I could come to Paris, like lots of other clubs. There are lots of big clubs with such a reputation who want to build a strong team and Paris are one of these teams who buy to strengthen their side.

“I would love to play at the same club as him (Lugano).” said Suarez on Canal+

PSG confirmed interest on Liverpool’s striker

Liverpool could be offered an easy ‘get out of jail free’ card as regards Luis Suarez as Paris Saint-Germain confirm their interest in the troubled Uruguayan striker.

Suarez, 25, joined Liverpool last January in a £22.8million deal. During his time on Anfield he has shown the brilliance that convinced the Liverpool hierarchy to part with such a hefty price tag, but he has also shown the darker side to his game of which we were already too aware.

PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confirmed his interest in signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in the summer, according to Sky Sports News.

Al-Khelaifi heads-up a Qatar investors group who now own the French giants and the ambitious owners have already spent heavily in order to try and bring success back to Paris.

With PSG currently topping the Ligue 1 table, it looks like their plan is already paying off and according to quotes on Sky Sports News today the big-spending owners have identified Liverpool striker Luis Suarez as a key signing this summer.

He says the lavish spending at Parc des Princes will continue for 'five or six years' as PSG set about becoming a global powerhouse.

So it looks like Liverpool may be bracing themselves for a summer bid for their star man. But it remains to be seen whether the Uruguayan would be interested in moving to Ligue 1, which is well below the standards of the Premier League.

Liverpool transfer target dismiss move to Anfield

This rumour resurfaced again today from SkySports, which Liverpool were tipped to have move for the FC Groningen striker and Luis Suarez’ countryman, David Texeira.

David Texeira has played down comparisons with Luis Suarez and insists he does not yet have enough experience to join a high-profile club like Liverpool.

The 20-year-old frontman is believed to have caught the eye of the Reds, who were thought to be monitoring him in last month's transfer window.

Texeira has also been compared to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, with the two players hailing from the same city, Salto, in Uruguay.

But the youngster has shrugged off those comparisons, insisting his style of play is more akin to that of compatriot and Inter Milan ace Diego Forlan.

Texeira is aware of talk linking him with an Anfield move but insists it is too early in his career to join a big club.

He instead wants to emulate Suarez in continuing his development in Holland after the Reds striker spent four years at Ajax before moving to Merseyside.

   “I heard the rumours that Liverpool were after me, but people talk a lot,”

“It's way too early to join a club like Liverpool. I need more experience first, and that's why I joined Groningen,”

“I want to develop here, and eventually join a bigger club, just like Luis.” he said.

Luis Suarez on PSG radar

Reports have surfaced that PSG are ready to offer Liverpool striker Luis Suarez an escape route out of England.

L’Equipe reported that the nouveau-riche French league leaders are desperate to sign a world-class forward and have turned their attention to the Uruguay star after failed bids in January for Carlos Tevez and Alexandre Pato.

The French club are keen to add a world class striker to their squad and the recent problems of Suarez at Liverpool have convinced them that the Anfield club would consider selling a prized asset that has turned toxic over recent weeks.

Suarez served an eight-game ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra, then raised tensions again in refusing to shake the Frenchman's hand ahead of Liverpool's defeat to Manchester United last week.

Suarez apologised to his manager, Kenny Dalglish, and the club, but Liverpool's American owners have been embarrassed by the affair and the Uruguayan's future is in doubt.

Signed in January last year from Ajax in a deal worth £22.8million, Suarez has scored 13 times in 36 appearances for Liverpool. Though arguably the club's best player, the controversy surrounding him may convince Liverpool the best thing for all parties would be to recoup their outlay.

Backed by the oil and gas rich Qatari royal family, PSG would have no trouble meeting any asking price and matching or improving Suarez's wages.

Any move could hinge on PSG claiming a place in the Champions League next season.

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League and on current form look set to miss out on a European place next year.

Suarez v Evra: Ferguson loving every bit of it

Sir Alex Ferguson has told Luis Suarez that he isn’t fit to wear the Liverpool shirt.

The Uruguayan striker again ­controversially clashed with Patrice Evra on Saturday.

Suarez, just back from an eight-game ban for racially abusing the ­Manchester United captain at Anfield in October, sparked a pre-match row when he ­refused to shake Evra’s hand.

And despite seeing Wayne Rooney score twice to take United to the top of the Premier League, Ferguson was in no mood to pull his punches when asked about the Uruguayan’s conduct.

“Suarez is a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club,” said Ferguson. “That player should not be allowed to play for Liverpool again. The history that club has got ... and he does that today.

“It could have caused a riot. I was ­really disappointed in that guy. For a club with their history, I’d get rid of him, I really would.

“Liverpool have a player banned for eight matches and they’ve tried to blame Patrice Evra. It’s him (Suarez) they should be bloody blaming. He could have cost them a European place.

“I had a chat with Patrice this morning and he said, ‘I’m going to shake his hand. I have nothing to be ashamed of. I’m going to keep my dignity.’ I couldn’t believe it when Suarez refused to shake his hand.” Liverpool boss Kenny ­Dalglish has been widely criticised for attempting to defend Suarez.

Dalglish decided against attending the usual post-match press conference, but reacted angrily when asked about Suarez’s snub to Evra on television.

Suarez claimed that the racial slurs he aimed at Evra in October were down to cultural differences.

And Dalglish once again seemed to indicate that he felt the 25-year-old had been misunderstood.

He raged: “I didn’t know that Luis ­refused to shake Evra’s hand. I’ll have to take your word for it. I didn’t see it. I wasn’t out there. But it’s contrary to what I was told.

“I think you are very severe and bang out of order to blame Luis Suarez for anything that happened out there...Listen, we’re not in it for ­handshakes.”

The FA last night indicated that they would wait for the report of referee Phil Dowd before deciding whether to act.

Evra embarked on an ill-conceived lap of honour at the final whistle that took him perilously close to Suarez.

Before the game, Greater Manchester Police confiscated thousands of copies of the Red Issue fanzine because it ­carried a mocked-up picture of the ­Suarez wearing a Ku Klux Klan outfit.

And as the Liverpool squad left Old Trafford, forward Craig Bellamy ­became embroiled in an ugly row with United’s head of security.

Later, United defender Rio Ferdinand admitted he refused to shake Suarez’s hand because of the snub to Evra, saying: “If he’s not got the respect that you need to have in these situations, and acknowledge that you’ve made a mistake and say sorry and move on, well I lost all respect for the guy after that.”

A human being has every right not to shakes his accuser’s or a liar’s hand, no matter what crime it involved. Wrongfully penalised by a man’s word against another, is that fair? Luis Suarez served his suspension for the accusation by the English FA, so that’s the end of it.

Excuse him for feeling a little aggrieved. The only thing is that if Dalglish and Suarez has had a talk about shaking hands and he said he would, I would have liked him to. Glad he has apologized for that and so has the club. Glad because that at least puts a temporary stop to all the vile written against him although I wouldn’t bet on it. Some rags are already on the ‘Luis to be sold this summer’ bandwagon.

Who the hell is Sir Alex Ferguson? A manager who bred and lead many love-rats, thugs and drug addicts in his Manchester squad, came out all guns blazing over a handshakes incident. If any Mancs reading this, do you remember the Cantona’s kung-fu kick on Crystal Palace’s fan? Or Keano career ending tackle on Alf Inge Haaland? Ferdinand was banned for 9 months for missing a routine drug test? Two love-rats still running on the pitch in disguise as Rooney and Giggs?

As far as I’m concern, the Premier League title still haven’t being won by any team in February. What is Evra celebrating for after the match? Isn’t that a riot act from a Manchester United player?

When football has becomes too political, it not just tarnished the reputation of Liverpool FC in general but the English FA itself in taking matters into their own hands are like taking a gun and shoot itself on the foot. I’d loved to see what are the FA going to do next? If Evra doesn’t get banned for his action, then your thoughts and mine would be most likely be the same – the system has been too corrupted and has political agendas written all over it.

Real Madrid offers €30M to Liverpool for Luis Suarez

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is ready to offer Luis Suarez an escape from his Liverpool nightmare with a €30 million bid for the striker.

Suarez’s future at the club was cast into shadow last night after it was reported that negotiations have begun to take him to Real Madrid.

Liverpool have maintained their support for Suarez however, and will be unwilling to let him leave the club he joined for €26.5 million last year. But a number of Spanish sites yesterday claimed the Madrid club have instructed Fabio Montecalvo from World Football Management to begin talks with Liverpool.

Montecalvo, who has close ties to Florentino Perez, was instrumental in the deal that brought Alberto Aquilani to Liverpool and is said to have maintained a strong working relationship with the Merseyside club and it’s officials.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool to sign £10M-rated Senegal forward

Amid the Luis Suarez saga, Liverpool has been shortage of fire-power upfront for the next six matches. Report of Darren Bent has been signed for Liverpool still dominating the internet rumour mills.

But there is a new twist and Liverpool has been monitoring the progress of Newcastle’s striker, Demba Ba after it was claimed the Senegal striker has a £10million release clause in his contract.

A £10million bid is needed to allow the Premier League’s in-form striker to speak to other clubs.

Newcastle chiefs were hoping the contract detail would not become public and they now expect top clubs to consider making offers.

However, any transfer will have to wait until the end of the season, as he will be away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Newcastle sources insist the player is happy on Tyneside and Pardew has refused to discuss the possibility of him leaving.

LFC: Striker Needed

I watched the Liverpool match the other night against Manchester City and although I think they played well enough, they were seriously lacking as an attacking force. The ban on Suarez is going to be a real problem, and you could see that there was a lack of movement or options with Carroll playing a lone striking role.

I am not having a go at Andy Carroll, but if Liverpool want to play the big man up front I believe he needs a playing partner alongside him. Carroll doesn’t have the pace or movement to terrify defenders, so he needs some support, because he is good at holding the ball up and winning headers.

Liverpool have very few options in attack, they have Carroll who has struggled to score so far, Dirk Kuyt is another option, or Bellamy who has a lot of pace which could be their best option. The fit again Gerrard could play just behind a lone striker or Shelvey, who played this role against Aston Villa.

But the options are very few with or without Suarez and Liverpool should be looking to bring another striker in this January, because it is imperative that they finish in the top four this season or they could drift away from being a top four club as the gap could widen.

Liverpool are in a decent position in the League at the moment, within striking distance of the top four, but with a lack of firepower, this could be a serious problem for the rest of the season. To be fair, scoring goals has been a problem all season, with so many chances spurned from the Anfield side, but the problem will be greater, especially with the absence of the influential Suarez.

Out of the attackers Liverpool have at their disposal, Craig Bellamy has looked the most likely to score. Kuyt has been struggling to get a game and hasn’t scored all season after finishing top scorer last season and Andy Carroll has struggled to fit in to the Liverpool style of play. The team can’t depend on the superb defence to limit the opposition all the time as the attackers struggle to score.

January is historically a difficult month to bring new players in, but Liverpool should be scouring the planet for another striker, or this season could drift away after so much promise. We will just have to watch this space for the next month and hope Liverpool can bring a much needed striker in to bring success this season.

LFC: Accepting the Wrong Decision

Through gritted teeth, and with no admission to guilt Liverpool have now accepted the decision by the FA to ban Luis Suarez for 8 matches. Both Liverpool and Suarez issued statements of resignation to the fact that they have to accept the ban, although in their statements there is no admission of being guilty to the charge.

But deep down they know that it is pointless and a waste of time to challenge the FA in a case involving a Manchester United player whose manager is the “Godfather” of the FA and Suarez was found guilty before the trial on the grounds of one man’s word against another man’s word with no witnesses.

The alleged victim Evra was apparently a more credible witness with his testimony, regardless of his history of troublemaking and even once trying to get a grounds man into trouble at Chelsea.

The FA was obviously just wanting to make an example of someone after showing discontent at Blatter’s comments towards racism recently. Suarez has just been made a scapegoat in this whole political affair.

An 8 game ban seems terribly harsh for the crime when a player can end a player’s career with a reckless challenge on the field and may not even get a ban for his crime. Funnily enough an example that springs to mind involved another Manchester United player, Roy Keane whose career ending tackle on Alf-Inge Haaland resulted in Keane receiving a 3 match ban and a small fine of £5000, OK so he got another ban later when he admitted in his autobiography of deliberately trying to “hurt” Haaland, where he received a 5 match ban for his comments. So in total Keane’s ban resulted in the same as Suarez, but I know what I think was the more serious crime and yet the punishment seems lenient to say the least.

The ban is not the biggest factor in this case, although it will hurt Liverpool’s ambitions this season. The biggest factor is that Suarez has been labelled a “racist” and mud sticks and this will never leave him. Everywhere he plays in England he will be subject to abuse from the opposing supporters and as we saw recently at Fulham he will receive no protection from anybody and he will be under scrutiny as all eyes will be on a reaction from him as he will be expected to show no retaliation, like he showed at Fulham which resulted in another ban for the unfortunate striker.

I also fear Liverpool losing him altogether as I would consider leaving this country if I was him and go to a country that will appreciate his talent. I hope for Liverpool’s sake that he doesn’t feel like me, but life will be so much more difficult for him now in this country.

But one thing that Suarez can be sure of is that he will never walk alone as long as he remains at Liverpool.

Liverpool FC accept Luis Suarez eight-match ban

Liverpool FC may seems to be wanted to get the case quickly out of their way and focus on the playing field instead. Liverpool announced on Tuesday that they will not appeal the penalty given to Suarez for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, but in a strongly worded statement the club maintained the 24-year-old is innocent of the charge.

By accepting the punishment despite not accepting culpability, Suarez is not scheduled to be eligible again until the Feb. 11 match against Manchester United, whose defender, Patrice Evra, was the target of the striker’s insults. Uruguay international Suarez tonight began his suspension, missing Liverpool's match at Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League.

Despite a public outcry, Liverpool continues to back the player who was signed from Ajax a year ago.

Dalglish also defended the decision of the Liverpool players to wear T-shirts in support of Suarez ahead of their game against Wigan last month – and insisted he is not worried that the former Ajax man will be targeted for the rest of his career in England.

Liverpool FC were told to leave Luis Suarez “walk alone”

Liverpool have been urged to abandon any thoughts of appealing against the eight-match ban and £40,000 fine that Luis Suarez received for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra, with a leading anti-racism campaigner warning the club that their vehement support of the Uruguayan is damaging their reputation.

The 115-page written verdict, which was released by the Independent Regulatory Panel on behalf of the Football Association on New Year’s Eve, presented Suarez's evidence as “unreliable” and “inconsistent” and painted a sorry picture of the manner in which the Merseyside club handled proceedings.

The Professional Footballers’ Association and anti-racism groups have supported the judgment and called on Liverpool to preserve their reputation and accept the verdict.

This was despite their legal team admitting flaws in their own evidence and failing to offer a satisfactory response when quizzed on the contradictions within the club’s and player’s testimony.

Piara Powar, the executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe, says Liverpool risk damaging their reputation unless they accept the findings.

   “Luis Suarez and Liverpool FC have the right to appeal, however we would call on the club to think again about their public campaign to dispute the charges and contest the principles involved in the case.

“As a club with a good international standing the vehemence of their campaign is unquestionably causing them reputational harm.

“Racial abuse between players on the field of play has been an unspoken taboo for too long, an area that has been unsatisfactorily dealt with by English football despite many cases over the past 10 years.”

Kenny Dalglish, Dirk Kuyt, Damien Comolli and Luis Suarez's legal representative Peter McCormick were all criticised in Football Association report.

The commission labelled elements of what the Liverpool manager told Marriner in his room immediately after the final whistle “surprising”, as it contradicted various elements of Suarez's own testimony. In his evidence, Phil Dowd, the fourth official at Anfield that day, said Dalglish had remarked “hasn’t he done this before?” in relation to Evra’s allegations, although this was not remarked upon in the report.

Dirk Kuyt
The Liverpool striker claimed that Evra had told Marriner he was being booked because he was black, an allegation rejected out of hand by the commission, who said the claim made “no sense”. The inconsistencies in his account of his conversation with Suárez after the game over what had been said weakened the Uruguayan’s case, according to the commission.

Damien Comolli
Another witness whose account of what Suarez had said to Evra “surprised” the commission. They drew attention to “discrepancies” in what Comolli reported to the referee about what Suarez had claimed to say to Evra in the immediate aftermath of the game and the striker’s evidence. They pointed out these discrepancies had “not been satisfactorily explained”.

Peter McCormick
Suarez's legal representative was highly criticised. His suggestion that Evra made up his claim that Suarez said “I don’t speak with blacks” to gain revenge on the Uruguayan for failing to explain why he had fouled him earlier in the game was deemed “unrealistic”. He also said that Suarez's claim that pinching Evra’s arm was an attempt to “defuse” the situation was due to “bad drafting” of the striker’s statement, a point that was also rejected out of hand by the commission.

Liverpool striker suspended from Newcastle match

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez has been suspended for one match and fined £20,000 by the Football Association, after admitting a charge of improper conduct for his behaviour towards Fulham fans on December 5.

The Uruguayan striker, already facing an eight‑game ban subject to Liverpool appealing against the verdict of the FA’s tribunal on the Patrice Evra racial abuse case, has also been warned over his future conduct.

Liverpool, who picked up an additional FA fine of £20,000 for failing to control their players in the same Craven Cottage match in which Jay Spearing was dismissed, have decided to accept both punishments and will not be contesting either decision. The club admitted the charge of failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion but initially contested the financial penalty until an independent regulatory commission ruled it was applicable.

Suárez admitted the charge against him, as did the Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, once photographic evidence was made available, and sources within the club say the intention now is to move on from this relatively minor matter and await the FA commission's detailed report into the Evra incident. Liverpool will almost certainly launch an appeal against the eight‑match suspension once the commission's findings have been made public. The FA are in the process of making a detailed report available, and once Liverpool have been made aware of the exact case against their player and reasons for finding him guilty they have a further fortnight to make up their minds about an appeal.

Suárez, Liverpool's leading scorer this season, has been in England almost a year and has never served a suspension in this country, though just before leaving Holland for Merseyside he was given a seven-match ban for biting an opponent while playing for Ajax. At Fulham he was apparently upset by sections of the home crowd accusing him of cheating by going to ground too easily. Liverpool keen to bring Fernando to Anfield

With the winter transfer window re-opens in just a week away, the playing squad problem faced by Liverpool FC in the second half of the Barclay’s Premier League has been increased as Lucas Leiva out of the season and in-form striker Luis Suarez awaits an eight-match ban.

Liverpool look poised to open talks with FC Porto for the transfer of defensive midfielder Fernando Reges. The Reds recently lost Lucas to injury, depriving boss Kenny Dalglish of his favoured holding midfielder.

Fernando is a non-nonsense holding player who has impressed at Porto for his ability to win the ball and quickly supply it to team-mates – vital in the transition phases of games.

Fernando is highly rated by the Portuguese champions, who would not be keen to lose his services, especially in mid-season.

Fernando is under contract with Porto until 2014 and is believed to have a buyout clause of around €30million.

But Fernando could be the subject of a bidding war between Liverpool FC and Juventus in January. The FC Porto defensive midfielder has been scouted by both clubs and the Italians have submitted a transfer bid recently.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool planned ahead of Luis Suarez’ ban

Whether or not Liverpool appeal Luis Suarez’ ban, the Anfield club need a striker and were linked with German international Lukas Podolski. Suarez was hit with an eight-match ban on Wednesday over alleged racist comments that he made towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

Director of Football Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the Polish born German international after seeing Suarez handed an eight-match ban and was already scouting the 26-year-old as Liverpool have been struggling for goals and have been far to dependent on the Uruguayan international.

Podolski has enjoyed the last 18 months since his move from Bayern Munich to the club he played for from age 10 to 21 and has managed a very impressive 14 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances thus far this season and Comolli will advise Kenny Dalglish to put forward a bid that meets FC Koln’s reported €20milion (£16.6million) valuation.

In spite of the difficulties that new recruits have adapting to the Premier League, Podolski would have no such problems. Podolski can count speed as one of his primary attributes, and he plays in teams that attack the opposition with pace and width, which suits his game perfectly. Many of his goals and assists for FC Koln this season have been lightning quick counter-attacks, while we all know how well he fits into the front three or four that Germany manager Joachim Loew employs. In that sense, he’d adapt very well to the football that Liverpool play.

Liverpool’s owners are willing to fund January additions as they look to secure Champions League football for next term and having forked out over £100million on new signings in 2011 will continue to back Dalglish next month.

Podolski is an adaptable attacker who can also play out wide as well as in his preferred position up front and Liverpool are keen to bring in the hugely experienced attacker who has amassed a hugely impressive 95 international caps, notching up a whopping 43 goals for the German national team in the process.
