Liverpool FC enter talks over deals for European double swoop

Liverpool are reportedly in talks over a European transfer double swoop.

Real Madrid playmaker Esteban Granero has been linked with a move to Merseyside before the window closes in exactly seven days in a bid to bolster the Reds' attacking options.

Also said to be in talks is Groningen's highly-rated striker David Texeira.

The Uruguay Under-20 international has been on Liverpool's radar for some time, with the Reds watching the 20-year-old on several occasions over the past twelve months.

Granero has been on Liverpool's radar for several years and Kenny Dalglish appears willing to hand him an escape route from the Real after making just four appearances this season.

But the offer of a loan deal until the end of the season is unlikely to find favour with the La Liga leaders supposedly eager to offload the 24-year-old permanently before the window closes.

Liverpool is closing in on Texeira, with the two clubs entertaining talks over a £8 million deal.

A stumbling block could be the transfer fee, however, with Texeira's former club Defensor Sporting believed to be entitled to 20 per cent of any fee.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool target Chilean international this transfer window

Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Udinese's full-back Mauricio Isla with a view to a summer transfer, according to talkSport.

Isla, 23, has been impressive for the Italian club and has caught the eye of Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, who is looking to strengthen his squad in January.

Isla is a versatile player who can do a job in either full-back position, across the midfield and even as an attacking winger. This would provide Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish with an array of options, although he is likely to use the Chilean in an attacking role.

Udinese will be keen to keep their star defender at the club but would consider offers in the region of £10 million.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool will sign a South American striker playing in Holland

Liverpool spent big on a South American player from the Dutch league last January, and history could be about to repeat itself as their goal scoring problems continue into 2012.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper and Kop legend Bruce Grobbelaar claims that Kenny Dalglish will definitely sign a striker during the January transfer window.

In an interview with TalkSport earlier, Grobbelaar tantalisingly hinted that Liverpool are interested in signing two strikers in the January transfer window.

   “There are two strikers [Liverpool are interested in],”

“I know that [Kenny Dalglish] is looking at a South American striker who is playing in Holland and I know that he’s quite close in getting another striker.

“I’m not going to be the one to actually tell you who, but I’m sure that the striker will be arriving soon.”

Twenty-year-old David Texeira only moved to Dutch club FC Groningen – Suarez’s first club in Europe – last August.

Born in the region of Salto – the same area as both Suarez and Napoli hot-shot Edinson Cavani – Texeira has inevitably drawn comparisons with Uruguay’s two hottest properties.

Liverpool picked up Suarez for £22million last January after the forward had left Groningen and enjoyed four successful years at Ajax, but the Reds know that if they act quickly over Texeira then they will be able to save themselves a fortune.

As well as Suarez, Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates is also at Anfield, and the Reds would expect to shell out a similar £6million fee to the one they paid the centre-back’s club Nacional for Texeira, who they feel can make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s problems in front of goal – particularly during home games – have been well documented this season, and although Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli have looked at more established names to fill the goal scoring gap, the club’s policy of recruiting young players has led them to who they hope is Suarez the second.

Texeira certainly fits Liverpool’s ‘buy them young’ transfer policy, and this season, he has a creditable 8 goals in 12 games for Groningen have made the continent sit up and take notice of the Uruguay under-20 international.

Rumour Mill: Spanish striker back on Liverpool radar

Liverpool are continuing their hunt for firepower – with Spain striker Fernando Llorente a possible target.

Kop boss Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli continue to monitor several options. They are also keeping tabs on other hitmen including Newcastle's Demba Ba but 26-year-old Llorente who would cost at least £20m, is also on their radar after some fine displays for Athletico Bilbao and Spain.

Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina and Maxi Rodriguez have also praised Llorente's performances in La Liga this term to Liverpool's hierarchy.

A move for Serbian wonderkid Lazar Markovic is looking unlikely after his club Partizan Belgrade slapped a £14m price on his head.

People Sport revealed last week that the 17-year-old was a target - but Dalglish will not fork out that kind of cash.

Liverpool FC were told to leave Luis Suarez “walk alone”

Liverpool have been urged to abandon any thoughts of appealing against the eight-match ban and £40,000 fine that Luis Suarez received for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra, with a leading anti-racism campaigner warning the club that their vehement support of the Uruguayan is damaging their reputation.

The 115-page written verdict, which was released by the Independent Regulatory Panel on behalf of the Football Association on New Year’s Eve, presented Suarez's evidence as “unreliable” and “inconsistent” and painted a sorry picture of the manner in which the Merseyside club handled proceedings.

The Professional Footballers’ Association and anti-racism groups have supported the judgment and called on Liverpool to preserve their reputation and accept the verdict.

This was despite their legal team admitting flaws in their own evidence and failing to offer a satisfactory response when quizzed on the contradictions within the club’s and player’s testimony.

Piara Powar, the executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe, says Liverpool risk damaging their reputation unless they accept the findings.

   “Luis Suarez and Liverpool FC have the right to appeal, however we would call on the club to think again about their public campaign to dispute the charges and contest the principles involved in the case.

“As a club with a good international standing the vehemence of their campaign is unquestionably causing them reputational harm.

“Racial abuse between players on the field of play has been an unspoken taboo for too long, an area that has been unsatisfactorily dealt with by English football despite many cases over the past 10 years.”

Kenny Dalglish, Dirk Kuyt, Damien Comolli and Luis Suarez's legal representative Peter McCormick were all criticised in Football Association report.

The commission labelled elements of what the Liverpool manager told Marriner in his room immediately after the final whistle “surprising”, as it contradicted various elements of Suarez's own testimony. In his evidence, Phil Dowd, the fourth official at Anfield that day, said Dalglish had remarked “hasn’t he done this before?” in relation to Evra’s allegations, although this was not remarked upon in the report.

Dirk Kuyt
The Liverpool striker claimed that Evra had told Marriner he was being booked because he was black, an allegation rejected out of hand by the commission, who said the claim made “no sense”. The inconsistencies in his account of his conversation with Suárez after the game over what had been said weakened the Uruguayan’s case, according to the commission.

Damien Comolli
Another witness whose account of what Suarez had said to Evra “surprised” the commission. They drew attention to “discrepancies” in what Comolli reported to the referee about what Suarez had claimed to say to Evra in the immediate aftermath of the game and the striker’s evidence. They pointed out these discrepancies had “not been satisfactorily explained”.

Peter McCormick
Suarez's legal representative was highly criticised. His suggestion that Evra made up his claim that Suarez said “I don’t speak with blacks” to gain revenge on the Uruguayan for failing to explain why he had fouled him earlier in the game was deemed “unrealistic”. He also said that Suarez's claim that pinching Evra’s arm was an attempt to “defuse” the situation was due to “bad drafting” of the striker’s statement, a point that was also rejected out of hand by the commission.

Liverpool striker suspended from Newcastle match

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez has been suspended for one match and fined £20,000 by the Football Association, after admitting a charge of improper conduct for his behaviour towards Fulham fans on December 5.

The Uruguayan striker, already facing an eight‑game ban subject to Liverpool appealing against the verdict of the FA’s tribunal on the Patrice Evra racial abuse case, has also been warned over his future conduct.

Liverpool, who picked up an additional FA fine of £20,000 for failing to control their players in the same Craven Cottage match in which Jay Spearing was dismissed, have decided to accept both punishments and will not be contesting either decision. The club admitted the charge of failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion but initially contested the financial penalty until an independent regulatory commission ruled it was applicable.

Suárez admitted the charge against him, as did the Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, once photographic evidence was made available, and sources within the club say the intention now is to move on from this relatively minor matter and await the FA commission's detailed report into the Evra incident. Liverpool will almost certainly launch an appeal against the eight‑match suspension once the commission's findings have been made public. The FA are in the process of making a detailed report available, and once Liverpool have been made aware of the exact case against their player and reasons for finding him guilty they have a further fortnight to make up their minds about an appeal.

Suárez, Liverpool's leading scorer this season, has been in England almost a year and has never served a suspension in this country, though just before leaving Holland for Merseyside he was given a seven-match ban for biting an opponent while playing for Ajax. At Fulham he was apparently upset by sections of the home crowd accusing him of cheating by going to ground too easily. Dalglish has never attempted to defend his gesture, though he did use a DVD of the same game to support his view that Liverpool players were not getting a fair crack of the whip from referees.

Liverpool keen to bring Fernando to Anfield

With the winter transfer window re-opens in just a week away, the playing squad problem faced by Liverpool FC in the second half of the Barclay’s Premier League has been increased as Lucas Leiva out of the season and in-form striker Luis Suarez awaits an eight-match ban.

Liverpool look poised to open talks with FC Porto for the transfer of defensive midfielder Fernando Reges. The Reds recently lost Lucas to injury, depriving boss Kenny Dalglish of his favoured holding midfielder.

Fernando is a non-nonsense holding player who has impressed at Porto for his ability to win the ball and quickly supply it to team-mates – vital in the transition phases of games.

Fernando is highly rated by the Portuguese champions, who would not be keen to lose his services, especially in mid-season.

Fernando is under contract with Porto until 2014 and is believed to have a buyout clause of around €30million.

But Fernando could be the subject of a bidding war between Liverpool FC and Juventus in January. The FC Porto defensive midfielder has been scouted by both clubs and the Italians have submitted a transfer bid recently.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool planned ahead of Luis Suarez’ ban

Whether or not Liverpool appeal Luis Suarez’ ban, the Anfield club need a striker and were linked with German international Lukas Podolski. Suarez was hit with an eight-match ban on Wednesday over alleged racist comments that he made towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

Director of Football Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the Polish born German international after seeing Suarez handed an eight-match ban and was already scouting the 26-year-old as Liverpool have been struggling for goals and have been far to dependent on the Uruguayan international.

Podolski has enjoyed the last 18 months since his move from Bayern Munich to the club he played for from age 10 to 21 and has managed a very impressive 14 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances thus far this season and Comolli will advise Kenny Dalglish to put forward a bid that meets FC Koln’s reported €20milion (£16.6million) valuation.

In spite of the difficulties that new recruits have adapting to the Premier League, Podolski would have no such problems. Podolski can count speed as one of his primary attributes, and he plays in teams that attack the opposition with pace and width, which suits his game perfectly. Many of his goals and assists for FC Koln this season have been lightning quick counter-attacks, while we all know how well he fits into the front three or four that Germany manager Joachim Loew employs. In that sense, he’d adapt very well to the football that Liverpool play.

Liverpool’s owners are willing to fund January additions as they look to secure Champions League football for next term and having forked out over £100million on new signings in 2011 will continue to back Dalglish next month.

Podolski is an adaptable attacker who can also play out wide as well as in his preferred position up front and Liverpool are keen to bring in the hugely experienced attacker who has amassed a hugely impressive 95 international caps, notching up a whopping 43 goals for the German national team in the process.

Liverpool striker handed an eight-match ban and fine by the FA

Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.

The Football Association imposed the punishment, suspended for 14 days pending any appeal from the club, and a £40,000 fine after a ruling by an independent regulatory commission.

   “It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said ‘I don’t think that Luis Suarez is racist’.

“The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.”

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish was fuming at the decision by an independent regulatory commission following a three-day hearing last week.

Club officials will now study the written findings before formally deciding whether to appeal or not. But if he appeals and loses he risks being handed an even longer ban of up to 10 games. Read Liverpool FC Official statement on Luis Suarez here.

An FA statement said:

   “Mr Suarez used insulting words towards Mr Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3 (1).

“The insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra’s colour within the meaning of Rule E3 (2).

“Mr Suarez shall be warned as to his future conduct, be suspended for eight matches covering all first-team competitive matches and fined the sum of £40,000.

“The penalty is suspended until after the outcome of any appeal, or the time for appealing expires, or should Mr Suarez decide not to appeal.”

   “Suarez didn’t have to be proven guilty “beyond the benefit of doubt”. This was not English justice, but a sports tribunal. He did not get given the chance to defend himself to a jury of his peers. He faced a small panel, that was not fully independent or without its agendas (such as taking on Sepp Blatter on the issue of racism, and perhaps using this to prove a point). The fact that this was such a tricky issue perhaps made the procedure insufficient; at least John Terry gets to go through a more established process.

“People are wrongly convicted of things all the time, especially with only verbal accusations. Cases are frequently overturned; initial guilty verdicts can be appealed, and are often successful.

However, Suarez is available for tonight’s Premier League clash at Wigan but whether he is in the right frame of mind to play remains to be seen.

From an outside point of view looking into this verdicts on Suarez’s charges, it’s only one man’s words against another man. The committee setup by the FA has failed to provide a concrete evidences on the allegation. Luis Suarez will remained “innocent” until be proven guilty of serious offences beyond a reasonable doubt.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool heighten up the chase for Lucas’ cover

Just two weeks away for the January transfer window to re-opens.

It has been revealed that Premier League giant Liverpool are eyeing Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra.

The 26-year-old is one of a handful of players in the position to be linked with the Reds, as Kenny Dalglish considers his options following a season-ending injury picked up by Brazilian Lucas Leiva.

Seydou Keita, Cheick Tiote and Sandro have also been placed on the radar, but reports in The Independent claim Liverpool are plotting a loan move on the French international.

Diarra has Barclays Premier League experience from his time at Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth, whilst Tottenham Hotspur were also linked with a move for the player in the summer.

Liverpool also reportedly joining the chase for Newcastle’s £25million-rated ­midfielder Cheick Tiote.

Kenny Dalglish sent a scouting mission to St James’ Park yesterday as the Ivorian, 25, played his first game since October 22, against ­Swansea.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool to raid Tottenham for Samba midfield star

Reports are suggesting that Liverpool may look to Tottenham this January as they strive to fill a gap in the midfield left vacant by the long-term injury of Lucas Leiva.

It was uncovered last week that the Brazilian anchorman would miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in the Carling Cup clash against Chelsea.

Sandro is frustrated at a lack of playing time at Spurs but they want him to stay as cover for Scott Parker.

The 22-year-old signed for Tottenham in 2010 for £8million, but despite brief glimpses of quality, has never nailed down a regular role in Harry Redknapp's side.

Now Dalglish is believed to be pondering a move for the former Internacional  starlet, although Italy has been mooted as the midfielder's most likely destination should he leave White Hart Lane.

His agent Luiz Paulo Chignall admits nothing can be ruled out at the present time.

   “In football you can never rule anything out, though, with it possible that negotiations will see all parties reach an agreement. Many clubs have contacted me for information on his situation, but there has been no official proposal," he's reported as saying in the paper.”

Jay Spearing is currently being tipped to fill the void at Anfield after Lucas joined skipper Steven Gerrard on the treatment table, with the Liverpool boss being coy over any possible activity during the transfer window.

Seydou Keita, Lassana Diarra and Yann M'Vila have also been linked with Liverpool moves, and Sandro is the latest name to be added on a speculative hitlist.

Liverpool to sign a new striker next month

It’s hardly a conspiracy theory or wild rumours that Liverpool FC and Kenny Dalglish longing for a new striker next month when the January transfer window re-opens.

We all know that Luis Suarez will be indefinitely be suspended at some point by the FA on the racism allegation and the finger gesture during the Fulham match. Unless, Andy Carroll can step up to the plate and proved his critics wrong in the next few games, which I’m highly doubt he can. While, Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy can’t run the show for the full 90-minutes week in, week out as both players are in their twilight years of their career. Who else can we call upon to lead the front-line?

A Scottish international has been named as a target, along with Rangers’ Nikica Jelavic and Polish striker Robert Lewandowski name resurfaced yet again.

Liverpool are pondering a January move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Steven Fletcher. Dalglish is desperate to sort out the Reds’ profligacy in front of goal and has identified the 24-year-old as a possible solution.

Liverpool are also preparing an £8million bid for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic. The 26-year-old has scored 12 times in 17 appearances this season and is believed to be attracting interest from a number of clubs. Newcastle United have also been linked to Jelavic’s signature this January.

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is back in the frame again with Liverpool his most likely destination. Lewandowski is not your typical out and out scorer but has still managed to notch up 10 league goals in 16 matches this season. He was instrumental in helping Dortmund lift the Bundesliga title last season and could see a move to Merseyside as a fresh challenge. The 6ft Polish striker would be the perfect player to complement Luis Suarez as he holds the ball well and likes to feed people through.

The Polish youngster moved to Dortmund on a four year contract in 2010 for a fee of around €4.9 million and will take some doing to lure the youngster to leave Dortmund having just signed with the club a year ago. However Liverpool’s new owners have shown enough steel that they are willing to spend big in a bid to put Liverpool back on the map, having already spent over £100 million since their takeover.

Liverpool and Suarez given new extension date on FA charges

Liverpool have been given more time by the Football Association to respond to the two charges that followed last week's defeat at Fulham.

Reds striker Luis Suarez was charged with improper conduct over an allegedly abusive hand gesture, while the clubs were charged with failing to control their players following the sending off of Jay Spearing.

Liverpool were originally given until 4pm on Monday to respond to the charges but have now been given an extension.

Suarez is also the subject of another FA disciplinary case after he was charged last month of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in October.

Spearing has already served one game of his three-match suspension after missing the weekend win over Queens Park Rangers, and the midfielder will serve the final two games of his suspension against Aston Villa and Wigan.

Liverpool's next game comes away to Aston Villa on Sunday. The Reds are currently three points outside the top four heading into the busy Christmas period.

Liverpool considering Chelsea wantaway striker

Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move to sign Chelsea attacker and France international striker, Nicolas Anelka in January. The Frenchman has slapped in a transfer request that boss Andre Villas-Boas has accepted and Anfield director of football Damien Comolli is keen to persuade the 32-year-old to make the move to Merseyside as he could be available for as little as £4million.

Anelka has previously had a successful loan stint at Liverpool back in 2002 after which boss Gerard Houllier opted to make a move to sign El Hadji Diouf instead of the Versailles born adaptable forward.

Dalglish is keen to beef up his attacking options as he looks to secure a place back in the top four and may well feel that a deal to bring Nicolas Anelka to Liverpool could help in that goal. The hugely experienced Chelsea man can play either out wide or as an orthodox striker and may well consider such an offer to return to the side he helped secure a runners-up finish in 2001/02.

Liverpool have had to rely heavily on Luis Suarez for goals and the Uruguayan could do with some effective support after pairings alongside Andy Carroll and Dirk Kuyt fail to bear fruit. Though Dalglish also has Craig Bellamy as a back up option he doesn’t have a great many players to call upon and as a result the club have managed just 17 goals in 13 Premier League matches thus far this season.

Anelka has chosen to put in a transfer request after falling far down the Chelsea pecking order behind the likes of Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge. This is despite the fact that he finished last season as the top scorer in all competitions with 16 goals in total.

Though Liverpool have a policy of planning for the future there is also a strong desire to clinch Champions League qualification for next season and a move to bring in such another top notch striker, despite his advancing years, would certainly help in this regard.

The biggest obstacle to such a deal may lie in the fact that Chelsea may not be keen on offering one of their players to a team challenging them for a top four spot, which may lead Liverpool to make a nominal offer of around £4million for a player who will be out of contract in the summer.

What the heck is this? Read it from Mirror writer, David Maddock’s article today. First of all, Chelsea won’t sanction such a move even though it was a loan deal.

As all the Anfield faithful has brandish him as “Judas” when he left us for the Blues. The question is “Will Liverpool’s supporters welcome him back after one year?”.

We can’t hide from the facts that Kenny Dalglish would certainly welcome an additional striker to bolster his attacking option up front. Luis Suarez is a top class player, but he is not an out and out goalscorer like Torres. Andy Carroll hasn’t looked like a goalscorer either.

Liverpool and Chelsea are fighting for the Champions League spot come this May. It wouldn’t wise to lend a potent weapon to your closes enemy. Unless, the Blues has agreed to loan him out to Liverpool until the end of the league season without the option to recalled or revoked his loan tenure at Anfield. This option can worth to be consider by Dalglish but it’s a long shot.

We certainly don’t know what has really gone wrong with Torres at Stamford Bridge? And most of us doesn’t have the interest to investigate further. Let bygones be bygones as the Reds are moving forward and whoever Liverpool bringing in the coming transfer window, hopefully can strengthen the team. Just hope it’s wasn’t a Fernando Torres.

Rumour Mill: Liverpool planning January raid on Swansea winger

Liverpool are believed to be preparing to make a shock bid for Swansea City's Nathan Dyer after the winger's impressive performances in recent weeks caught the attention of manager Kenny Dalglish.

Kenny Dalglish is keen to bring in more width to the right side of his midfield and currently uses the services of Jordan Henderson and Dirk Kuyt to fill that role, neither being a natural selection for the role. The Liverpool boss has scouted Dyer this season and is said to be impressed by the former Southampton man has taken to life in the English top tier.

Liverpool boss is reported to be keen on bringing balance to Liverpool's team with pace and width on the right and he has identified Dyer as the man to offer that.

Dalglish has personally scouted the player already this season and saw him up close when Swansea earned a 0-0 draw at Anfield earlier this month.

Dyer was again impressive as the Swans lost narrowly at home to Manchester United on Saturday.

However, Dalglish may have to move quickly if he is to secure his services, with both Everton and Newcastle also said to be keen on making a bid.
